A gynaecological examination is an examination of the reproductive organs and genitals. It is the most common examination in gynaecology.
What the examination involves
It usually includes:
- An external examination of the external genitals.
- An internal examination by palpation of the cervix, uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes, the uterine ligaments, bladder, rectum, sacral spine and the lateral pelvic walls.
- An internal examination using a speculum, so that the vaginal walls and the surface of the cervix can be seen.
During the examination we can carry out diagnostic procedures such as swabs for pathogenic bacteria or fungi and for sexually transmitted infections, or take cells to look for precancerous or cancerous changes in the vagina or on the cervix.
During the examination
An examination can cause anxiety or discomfort, so we talk it through with you beforehand. Once the procedure has been explained, you know what to expect and feel more at ease.
What our patients say
I came to dr. Cokan completely by chance, after I was left without a gynaecologist. The first handshake was enough to convince me. He is an excellent gynaecologist and an outstanding sonographer, so I recommend him to everyone. His precision and professionalism are reassuring, and he is a warm and pleasant person who takes real care over every examination.
After a gynaecological ultrasound and a diagnosis, I turned to dr. Andrej Cokan of UMC Maribor, who explained how the treatment would go in a very empathetic and, above all, straightforward way. He is very approachable and professional, and it means a great deal to feel that someone is willing to take the time for you.
